Note: In addition to using library lingo for book "condition", i.e., Mint, Very Fine, Fine, Very Good, Good, Fair and Reading Copy, I have tried to fully describe it. Condition plays a big part in the value of a book. I have also developed a "ranking system" that also plays a major part in the value of a book and helps denote the difficulty of finding each book. These in combination determine the books value.
In ascending order:
S/A = Still available and not yet out of print, and as such the book listed is "used" and of less value than a new one at retail price.
C = Fairly easy to obtain at reasonable prices from near original retail price to about double retail cost, although some may be higher.
C/T = Common/Tough. Common, but more in demand by collectors, which makes it "tougher" to find and increases its value.
T = Tough, but not "extremely" difficult to find. Books in this category are "usually" but not always, the pre-1950 books. "Most" of those early works were printed by large book publishing companies, and they printed thousands of them, often in multiple editions (all of which some collectors attempt to get). Usually somewhat pricey.
T/I = Tough and In demand. Not necessarily an old book. Can be fairly recently published book that was produced in low numbers and/or signed by the author. These command a good price.
S = Scarce. Old books where minimal numbers were printed and/or they are hard to find OR are LIMITED EDITIONS. Some very small books/booklets fit this category and due to their small size are not extremely pricey. Full book sizes in this category can be very pricey.
V/S = Very Scarce. Very hard to find AND scarce. Very few printed and/or available/ Can apply to very old books and/or recent books that had very low numbers printed and are in great demand OR could be signed and numbered copies limited to a small number. Extremely pricey in most cases.
RARE = Nearly impossible to find and only a few known to exist, usually three or less.
